NEW YORK — A New York Times reporter’s car was caught in a snowstorm Thursday afternoon and crashed in Nairobi, Kenya, according to a police spokesman.
The New York Police Department said officers were dispatched to a report of a man in a vehicle heading south on Highway 1 in the city about 2 p.m. when the driver of the car crashed into a utility pole, sending him into the road.
Officers located the driver and were able to take him into custody.
The woman who was driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, the department said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, a Times reporter was killed in Njibar, east of Nairobia, by a speeding car.
Authorities said they had no information to link the incident to the Times reporter, but said it was the second fatal incident in the region in less than two months.
