Posted September 03, 2018 07:09:56 The White House is spending $2 billion on climate change efforts and $2.5 billion to counter other threats, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
It is the first budget for the Obama Administration to explicitly mention climate change.
The AP also reported the White House spent $500 million in 2017 to help states deal with rising sea levels and wildfires.
Trump has said climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese and that he will stop funding it.
“It’s not climate change,” Trump told The Wall Street Journal in July.
“We are in denial.”
In addition to funding climate change research and programs, the budget would include $10 billion to help address other threats such as pandemics, earthquakes, flooding, desertification, and forest fires.
In his budget proposal, Trump proposed $50 billion in disaster relief and $50 million to fight wildfires.
He said he would invest $2 trillion to build the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, build a wall on the U.”s southern border, and expand the number of refugees accepted in the United States.
